ABOUT ME

After high school, I moved to Vancouver to be an actor and audition for roles. I had a blast during this time but longed for tertiary education. From 2003 to 2008, I worked on a B.A. in English (rhetoric, professional writing, creative writing, literature) at Thompson Rivers University. I spent every spring and summer landscaping. I worked in Calgary, at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, and at the federal government's agricultural research centre in Kamloops. In 2008, I skipped my graduation ceremony and moved to Japan to immerse myself in a new language, and culture, and to explore unfamiliar and exciting experiences. With no training, I found myself teaching English in a small city known as the birthplace of Matcha. With my trusty steel bicycle, I taught at dozens of elementary and middle schools. From July 2008 to March 2014 I taught K-12 in various schools, from public to private, in several cities and small towns in the Kansai Region.

In February 2010, I enrolled in the Applied Linguistics M.A. program at the University of Newcastle (Australia). This better positioned me to continue transitioning into tertiary education settings and set me on a path to academic research. From September 2010 to March 2016, I continued teaching in Japan, until an urge to get Canadian work experience brought me to Vancouver, B.C.

From March 2016 until present, I have stepped foot in plenty of varied and diverse educational institutions in Canada. As expected, teaching in Canada has enabled me to think about my research interests in new and exciting ways, all the while earning important pedagogical experiences via teaching students from over 55 countries. I continue to learn and I am focused on improving my abilities in teaching academic English and communications, while being an active member of various committees. I am writing and publishing again while I continue to be involved in Indigenization. Moreover, I continue to grow experience in public relations and digital media management for small companies.
